What is the gastric sleeve?

The gastric sleeve, also called a sleeve gastrectomy, is a surgical procedure that decreases the size of your stomach, which helps you fill up faster, so you eat less and lose weight. 

During the procedure, your surgeon removes about 80% of your stomach, leaving you with a small sleeve of a stomach, similar in size and shape to a banana. What can I eat after my gastric sleeve procedure?

The team at Lakeland Surgical Clinic, PLLC, provides you with a very structured diet plan following your gastric sleeve procedure. You need to follow the diet plan as directed to prevent complications and get the results you want.

For the first week or so, you may only be allowed to drink sugar-free liquids. Then, as tolerated, you can add pureed foods to your diet. About four weeks after your procedure, you may be able to reintroduce regular foods as directed by your provider.

In addition to your diet, the team may also recommend nutritional supplements, such as a multivitamin, calcium, or vitamin B12 injections.
